Liquid or gaseous fuel stoves

COOKING TECHNOLOGIES - COOKSTOVES

 

They include stoves utilizing liquid or gaseous fuels such as kerosene, alcohols (ethanol and methanol), vegetable oils like jatropha oil, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Natural Gas (NG) or Biogas, more efficient modern fuels than those used in solid fuelled stoves.

Advantages/Disadvantages

Advantages

  • Modular design;
  • Higher efficiency and less harmful emissions compared to solid fuel stoves;
  • High portability;
  • Reliable and easy to use;
  • Reduced risk of fires and burns

Disadvantages

  • Relatively high operating cost compared to solid fuel stoves;
  • Require very high construction skills.

Examples of the technology applications

It is currently in use in Ethiopian refugee camps -stoves fuelled by Ethanol in place of kerosene.
