A haybasket or fireless cooker is a simple container where a partially cooked food can be stored in order to continue cooking with no need to consume further fuel or external heat.

Advantages/Disadvantages

Advantages

  • Reduce the need for fuel wood up to 40%;
  • Reduce the emission;
  • Lightweight and portable;
  • Very simple to use and make;
  • Production could become a livelihoods activity for women.

Disadvantages

  • Only slow-cooked foods (legumes, grain, rice);
  • Require more cooking time.
